Stalled or disputed claims: how the broker helps

Most claims run their course smoothly through the insurer's line – that is the normal route, and the fastest one too. But there is a remainder: the case that has been "in progress" for months, the rejection whose reasoning limps, the compensation that is a fraction of the loss. This is where my work begins.

In brief:
  • The routine claim's route is the insurer's claims line and portals – the broker steps in where the case stalls or is disputed.
  • The essence of the broker's help is professional translation: analysing the reasoning, identifying the missing evidence, structuring the reopening.
  • Not every disputed case can be won – but an honest assessment of the chances is worth something too.

When do we talk about a stalled case?

Three symptoms signal it. Timelessness: a long time has passed since notification with no substantive step, the case handler is unreachable, deadlines slip without explanation. Endless requests for further documents: repeated, contradictory or irrelevant document requests – the normal round and its limits are covered in the article on requests for further documents. And a questionable decision: rejection or partial settlement with reasoning that doesn't clearly follow from the conditions, or that handles the facts incompletely.

What do I do in that case?

First understand, then act. Analysing the file and the reasoning: exactly what is the insurer relying on – an exclusion, a breach of obligation, lack of proof? Comparing the wording of the conditions with the facts: does the argument actually hold up? Then the structured reopening: a summary submission that addresses the disputed points item by item, backed with documents – with new evidence (expert opinion, statement, a supplied document) where needed. And carrying the process forward: tracking deadlines, going through the insurer's internal review channels. Meanwhile the client's job is simply to bring the requested information – I help with the correspondence, where I can.

Honestly, about the chances

Not every disputed case can be won, and I say so at the outset: if the rejection follows clearly from the conditions – the risk really wasn't covered, the obligation really was breached – then the better service is an honest assessment of the situation and building the lesson into the next renewal: why claims get rejected, turning claim experience into renewal-time action. Where there is a case to be made, though, I do what I can to help see it through. On the separate tool that covers legal costs – which helps in disputes outside the insurer – the legal expenses cover overview has the details.
